Hazmat? on highway

Last Friday was the first time I saw the Electronic Traffic Boards on the N1 into Cape Town being used after the World Cup.

It was showing “Drive Carefully” and “CAUTION! HAZMAT SPILL ON RAMP CLOSED”.

First I thought it was some kind of Islam Catering company that spilled some of there sauces or something similar but I must admit this seemed unlikely. I really have (had) no idea what “hazmat” is (was).

After Googling it I saw it was Hazardous Materials. This made me feel stupid for one and a bit uncomfortable on the other..

There was also a huge gap in the railing you could see driving by - and it’s quite a way down should you make that mistake!

I am glad these boards are actually used for public good. Well actually used for anything now that the World Cup is over.

Dries.
